Music Monday | Ordinary World – Joy Williams (cover of Duran Duran)

April 8, 2019April 7, 2019 / Tash / Leave a comment

I’m all about sweet, feminine vocals. Totally enraptured. I just want to float away into the ether on Joy Williams’ voice. Please and thank you.

But I won’t cry for yesterday
There’s an ordinary world
Somehow I have to find
And as I try to make my way
To the ordinary world
I will learn to survive

snippets & glimpses

Snippets and glimpses are all you give me, never the full picture, just pieces of you, mismatched, jagged and broken, and so you find in me no more.

Tash Agafonoff is a freelance writer who lives and works on Gunaikurnai Country (Gippsland, Victoria)

Acknowledgement of Country

I acknowledge the Brayakaulung people of the Gunaikurnai Nation, the Traditional Custodians and Owners of the land on which I write–whose Sovereignty was never ceded–and pay my respects to Elders past, present and emerging. It always was and always will be Aboriginal land.

The leaves are starting to turn, the mornings and evenings, crisp. The air is clear and bright as nature begins to close down for winter. This time last year, we were four months away from finding out G had a rare and aggressive type of lymphoma. And yesterday, at his post-treatment follow-up, his haematologist advised that they consider him to be in remission. His treatment is complete, his scan is clear, and we, too, move into a new season: rehab and recovery. He needs to regain the strength he lost lying in a hospital bed for seven months. He needs to regain his independence. They say it will take a year—maybe more—a reasonable estimate is two months of recovery for every month of treatment. But for now, we are grateful for this season. For the ever present now. For being. Here.
